A local pencil pusher is stinging to get on the mic this evening as he waits for his chance to unleash his raw, unfiltered and alcohol fuelled talent.
Gathered with a bunch of colleagues at Singstar Karaoke in Betoota’s Chinatown district, local suit Todd McCormick (28) has unfortunately found himself experiencing the grim reality of watching his drunk colleagues attempt to duet “Empire State of Mind’ on a weeknight.
Despite making plans to have a pretty low key Thursday, The Advocate understands Todd was swept off his feet by three pints of hazy lager, and agreed to join an eclectic rabble of colleagues who don’t have a loving family to go home to, or flat out just don’t want to.
Now standing up the back of the shonky karaoke room, witnessed say Todd was working overtime to brush requests to add a song to the mix, even though he secretly knew exactly what he was going to belt out.
“Nah nah I don’t do karaoke,” shrugged Todd, as he took another sip from a warm Tsingtao he’d ordered off an iPad.
“You don’t wanna hear me sing,” he laughed, semi-hoping for his colleagues to start a little chant to get him on up there.
But as his drunkest workmate Carla began to launch into a pretty weak rendition of ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’, Todd decided he’d save the day with a tried and tested crowd favourite.
“Okay, okay, lemme have a look,” said Todd, knowing full well the digital jukebox would have his absolute favourite locked, loaded and ready to go.
“I might do ‘Mr. Brightside’, am I up next?”
