As drama continues to unfold on Aussie TikTok, with influencers feuding over the price of household items some shit, local man Darren Fielder (30) finds himself heaving a sigh of relief, thanking his lucky stars he grew up in the “golden era” of Aussie internet personalities.
One day while scrolling through TikTok and discovering Australia’s newest TikTok feud, Darren couldn’t help but reminisce on the internet personalities he cared about growing up, and how they were so much better.
While at the time he didn’t know it, Darren’s favourite Aussie Internet personalities would one day be regarded as the golden generation of home grown internet entertainment.
While legends like Zyzz, Superwog and Mychonny may have lacked in production quality, scripts and off camera drama for others to gossip about, they made up for in charm and off the cuff quotes that would spread through high schools across the nation like wildfire.
“I mean, I can’t imagine how I would have turned out if I grew up watching TikTok drama unfold.” remarked Darren while nostalgically browsing through old Yilmaz videos.
“Back in my day, we had real characters online, not just people debating how much a handmade mug should cost.. if only they saw Mychonny at his peak and some of the stuff he was saying.”
While the world of Aussie TikTok drama continues to evolve, Darren and many others like him are content to bask in the nostalgia of a bygone era, where internet personalities were more about making fun of one’s vernacular and blatant ethnic stereotypes.
As for the future, only time will tell what new forms of online culture will emerge, but for now, Darren is content to kick back, relax, and continue to use the phrase ‘What a head’.
