A big chungus has used millions of dollars of other people’s money to essentially broadcast the fact he raped a colleague at work and then lied to cover it up.
In a packed courtroom in Sydney with thousands of others watching online, Federal Court Justice Michael Lee handed down his verdict which came some months after the conclusion of what was a marathon trial.
Bruce Lehrmann raped Brittany Higgins in then Defence Minister Linda Reynolds’ office in Parliament House one night in 2019.
“Mr Lehrmann raped Ms Higgins,” Justice Lee found.
“I hasten to add these findings are on the balance of probabilities. These findings should not be misconstrued or mischaracterised.”
In handing down his judgement, Justice Lee stressed that this was a civil trial, and not a criminal one.
The trial is likely to have cost millions and millions of dollars and was brought forward by Mr Lehrmann himself. He now faces the reality that Justice Lee’s judgement will likely follow him wherever he roams, for the rest of his life.
The character of the chungus was showcased throughout the trial; his degenerate conduct and tenuous relationship with the truth staining him regardless of what the outcome was today.
Over the course of the past few months, the state of the nation’s media was also put under the spotlight.
Spotlight, the Seven Network’s light entertainment programme which paid Mr Lehrmann a reprehensible amount of money for him to tell a story that’s now been judged in this trial to be a fantasy, sits atop the country’s pile of journalistic filth. Allegedly plying the chungus with vast amounts of staffer-grade cocaine and procuring ‘erotic’ masseuses, paying rent on a luxury home in the world’s second most expensive city. All to secure a story that’s essentially a collection of worthless lies.
As this defamation trial comes to an end, Linda Reynold’s defamation action against Brittany Higgins and her fiancé David Shiraz will resume in the coming months. What bearing this decision will have on that trial remains to be seen.
