Our town’s Old City District has come alive this morning as the local Anzac Day parade dissolves into the many licensed premises in the areas.

Two chocos have found themselves waiting for some mates to make their way into town, they tell The Advocate, so to pass the time they ducked into one of the newer bars in Betoota’s bustling commercial heart.

At the bar, Army Reservist Gavin Glark told our repoter he saw a bloke propped up there alone enjoying himself a blue cocktail.

Gavin turned to his mate and fellow Reservist, John “JD” Davidson, before looking back at the bloke at the bar.

“On the cocktails already here,” said Gavin.

JD nodded.

“This must be an Air Force bar,” he said.

“We should get a drink here, anyway.”

Gavin said he took a look at the taps and didn’t see many brews he recognised. Being ethnically South Australian, he explained that his concept of ‘craft beer’ began and ended with Coopers.

“We had two pints of Stone & Wood,” JD added.

“Forty bucks! Fuck me!”

When asked by our reporter where they were going, Gavin and JD shrugged and said they’d just play it by ear.

“We probably won’t stay here,” Gavin admitted.

“We’ll probably head somewhere where they’re putting beer in plastic cups and there’s old Navy guys there with pet lizards. That’s when you know you’ve found the right place. Some 50-year-old submariner named Garry with a pet lizard. Perfect.”

More to come.
