In an adorable story from a few kilometres outside of a Betoota, a young civil engineer is making quite the name for himself.
The young man is reportedly trying to leave a sizeable imprint on the Betoota Municipal Council’s Road Crew, it can be confirmed today.
Shipped up from Brisbane a few weeks ago, Ethan Skinner (29) confirmed to The Advocate that he’s trying to be the best version of himself in his new role here in the Diamantina Shire.
“Yeah, I’m just trying to make a really strong impression, and show the team that I know my stuff,” explained the young city man who might not know quite as much as he thinks he does.
Educated at consecutive sandstone institutions in the South East Corner of the state before cutting his teeth as a young grad on one of the big jobs in outer Brissy, Skinner says he’s been having a hard time trying to instil a work ethic into some of these blokes out here.
“I’m not sure they are cut out for the big jobs, a few of these fellas,” sighed Skinner.
One of those blokes in Skinners cross hairs is 54-year-old Stephen Kennett.
A veteran of the road and bridge crews here in town, Kennett has seen his fair share of young fellas coming through various positions.
Not one for being told to do by someone junior enough to be his youngest, Kennett says he’s been enjoying Skinner’s attempts at trying to performance manage him.
“I’m thoroughly enjoying it,” laughed Kennett.
“He’s got some really great advice and I really appreciate the supervision,” he winked.
“It’s going to be a really fun process, and I’m keen to lift my game,” he finished before, getting one of the younger boys to prank walkie talkie Stephen to a dead kangaroo out the back of one of the culverts.
More to come.
