As the players assemble for the respective State of Origin camps, one of the game’s newest stars has today spoken to The Advocate about making his debut.
Joseph Sua’ali’i, a Sydney Roosters ‘junior’ and talented rap artist explained that he can’t wait to run out for this state for the first time.
Sensationally picked in a completely revamped Blues squad by new coach Michael ‘Madge’ Maguire, Sua’ali’i said that he has a multitude of thoughts running through his head.
While he’s thinking about winning this game for his state first and foremost, the wildly talented young back revealed that he also hopes it prepares him for sterner tests ahead.
Set to jump across to the burgeoning sport of Rugby, the Roosters gun is hoping that the interstate game of footy will set him in good stead for the cauldron that is a proper rivalry – aka the NSW Waratahs vs the Queensland Reds.
“Bro, to be able to walk out into the cauldron, in front of 100,000 rabid rugby union fans,” he said.
“I’ve got goose bumps just thinking about it,” continued Sua’ali’i, who has angered plenty in the rugby league world by walking out on the their beloved Chookies.
“Nothing compares to the the old foes going toe to toe in an interstate battle.”
“There’s so many fabled moments and incredible story lines around those clashes. It will be surreal if I can even be in the conversation for a jersey.”
Sua’ali’i’s humble statement comes as the game of rugby union experiences a ground swell of support in Australia, with a talent pool that runs deeper than it ever has before.
While it’s yet to be determined if that dream comes to fruition, Sua’ali’i says it’s now time to focus on the game against the Maroons next Wednesday.
