Things have gone from bad to worse for the new Townsville Mayor Troy Thompson today.

Famous around the region for his colourful character and his dubious claims, Thompson has been forced to apologise for falsely claiming that he was part of the North Queensland Cowboys system back in the day.

This comes fresh off the back of news that the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) is investigating him for allegedly lying about his military service.

The investigation comes after no one in the most notable army town thought to fact check the noted alternative theorist’s claims about his service.

Thompson claimed during his campaign, amongst other questionable things, that he served ‘for about 5 years’ with the SAS.

That lack of due diligence lead to Thompson getting elected in March this year, where he subsequently was questioned about his past and was unable to recall his service number.

He’s since posted stuff on Facebook that he claims is proof he served, in a failed attempt to prevent the CCC from stepping in.

Already banned from Queensland Parliament, Thompson has now been hit with fresh allegations that he lied about his rugby league ability.

Despite prolific claims that he could have played Origin if not for a horrific ACL injury, it’s not emerged that Thompson never had any involvement with the Cows, let alone making the Cowboys Young Guns team.

While mayor Thompson has apologised for the stolen valour and stolen statistics from Troy Thompson’s Melbourne Storm and Canberra Raiders career, it seems like more claims are now surfacing.

Journalists have been sniffing around dubious boasts that he ran the 9k Castle Hill Trail in 37 minutes and he managed to drink 34 schooners in one evening at the Mad Cow.

Thompson has yet to comment on those claims.

More to come.
