Australia’s national football team, aptly named the Socceroos, are today ducking for cover after being caught up in a media hail storm.
The Socceroos have faced a barrage of criticism from all corners of the media after a disgusting display of anti-semitism in Perth last night.
In their attempt to qualify for the 2026 World Cup in North America, the football team have been caught playing a game of football against a nation that some people say isn’t actually a nation.
While the Socceroos did comprehensively dismantle Palestine in Perth last night, the 5-0 victory has seen the team accused of ‘gross anti-semitism’ and ‘pandering to Hamas.’
When asked about his appalling support for Palestine, Coach Graham Arnold last night tried to praise young superstars Kusini Yengi and Nestory Irankunda who are heralding an exciting new generation for Australian football.
While countries like the the US and Australia don’t recognise Palestine as a country, the Palestine Football Association became a full member of FIFA in 1998.
That recognition by a footballing body means that they get to take part in qualifying for things like the World Cup – aka a football tournament where all the nations on planet earth come together to enjoy the beautiful game.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has refused to comment on the issue, saying he can’t remember where he stands on this one anymore.
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has since called for the Socceroos to no longer receive government funding, before confusing himself over whether Israel or Palestine is the one with the Muslims, who are bad.
Greens Leader Adam Bandt has also called for the Socceroos to be defunded, but because of what he says was a ‘disgusting display of solidarity with Israel, by beating the Palestinians 5-0.’
Football Australia is yet to comment on the issue, but it is believed that they are a bit more concerned about the actual anti-semitism that can be clearly heard in the fascist chants from Sydney’s Eastern European hooligans at National Premier Leagues NSW matches.
MORE TO COME.
