The presumptive 2024 Democrat candidate and current Vice President of the USA, Kamala Harris has finally chosen her running mate for the November election.
And while everyone had imagined her eventual pick would look like a run-of-the-mill rural politician, nobody could have imagined just how rural the bloke she has chosen looks.
The rural vote is expected to soar off the back of this calculated decision, now that the official Democratic VP candidate looks exactly like a regional Australian local councillor who might’ve rezoned a couple paddocks owned by his wife’s brother for residential expansion.
With a long list of young and energetic candidates to choose from, the Harris team have spent weeks weighing up the best possible to join the race alongside a progressive black woman from California.
An initial frontrunner was the highly charismatic Pennsylvania Governor, Josh Shapiro. However, this pick could have exposed the Democrats to a cesspool of misinformation-led conspiracy, when considering the fact that Donald Trump was shot at in rural Pennsylvania just last month.
Other contenders included U.S. Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker.
With rural voters in mid-west swing states most likely to decide this election, Harris had to pick someone who loved guns but also was nice to gay people – a crucial but rarely balanced political blend in rural America.
In the end she chose former school teacher and American football coach, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
Harris has pointed to Walz’s track record for bringing in abortion protections for females constituents and moderate gun controls in his mostly rural state. She described him as a fighter for middle-class families.
Rural Australians have since marveled at just how easily the Minnesota Governor could be mistaken for a drunken western NSW or central Queensland mayor who is facing corruption watchdog inquiries for his involvement in dodgy water licensing deals and severe pork-barrelling for local sporting clubs.
The Trump campaign has since criticised this old bushie as a “radical leftist” and a “West Coast wannabe”
