The cafes of Lygon street are buzzing today, after an inspired performance from the Carlton Blues.

Heading to the Golden West for a must win clash against the Eagles, the Blues turned one on to prove to the rest of the competition that the premiership race could be all but over.

On a glorious afternoon in Perth, Carlton ran away 65 point winners over Harley Reid and the future dynastic rulers of the AFL.

Led by their main man Patrick Cripps, the huge win means that Carlton now look all but certain to play in a Grand Final, and have one hand on the premiership flag.

The win huge win over last year’s Wooden Spooners comes despite the club being beleaguered by a shocking injury crisis.

“Yeah, we are going to the G on the first weekend in October,” sighed one bewildered Carlton fan today.

“I can’t believe it, we are finally gonna break the drought.”

“We are winning a flag.”

“And we knocked the Pies out of the finals as well.”

“This is it.”

“It feels so surreal.”

Carlton now play a meaningless dead rubber against the Saints this weekend, before going on a 4 weekend run to the flag.

More to come.
