In an astounding showcase of stubbornness, local Betoota Heights dad Gary Palmer managed to turn a minor plumbing fault into a full-blown disaster after a botched DIY attempt.
The mayhem began when Gary, the self-proclaimed jack of all trades, noticed a pesky drip coming from the kitchen tap. Ignoring his wife Deb’s advice to call a plumber, Gary confidently proclaimed, “I’ve got this,” dismissing the idea of spending hundreds on a professional. “Plumbers just tinker with taps for a bit,” he said. “This should be a piece of cake to fix.”
After a trip to Bunnings for what he called ‘the perfect part’ and a quick YouTube tutorial, Gary set to work on the leaking tap. However, his DIY enthusiasm led him to dislodge several key components, resulting in gushing water that gradually submerged the kitchen.
Undeterred by the major flood alert that was his kitchen, Gary pressed on, certain he could save the day. He continued to twist and turn his wrench, convinced that he would miraculously fix the problem. Instead, each turn of the wrench only seemed to worsen the situation, sending another gush of water erupting and soaking everything in sight.
By the time Gary finally threw in the towel, the kitchen was underwater and Deb, clutching the local plumber’s business card, had already arranged an emergency visit.
Despite the chaos, Gary remains optimistic, claiming the kitchen “needed a good clean anyway.”
