In breaking news from Betoota’s dating scene, a new boyfriend has already been placed on a father-in-law’s watch list after failing to impress over the weekend.
The story comes as 29-year-old Tyler Johns botched an important landing on Sunday, as he undertook the all-important meet and greet of the parents of his new squeeze.
Having met local dental nurse Lara Simpson only three months ago, The Advocate understands Tyler was invited over for a cordial BBQ at the Simpson household, a meeting that came with considerable brevity given Lara hasn’t brought a new fella over for almost three years.
And despite Tyler’s efforts to iron a nice linen shirt for the occasion, and mind his table manners, it’s believed everything came crashing down when the farewells occurred. After shaking hands with Lara’s father Steve in the driveway to end the afternoon, it’s alleged Tyler made the ultimate faux pas and completely skewered his chance of ever getting to ask for Lara’s hand in marriage.
“Jeez mate, those front tyres look a little flat…” Steve mentioned, nodding towards Tyler’s clapped out Mitsubishi Magna. “And uhhh, when was the last time you got the tread checked?”
Brimming with nervous energy, and desperate to appear like an easy breezy guy, Tyler completely screwed himself when he took the concerns as a chance to show off how unphased he is about basic road safety.
“Haha nah I haven’t had it properly serviced in like three years,” Tyler laughed, committing the ultimate sin in the eyes of a concerned father who judges the respect of a man by his ability to keep his logbooks up to date.
“Actually I get my cousin to look at it every now and then, he’s a mechanic!” Tyler added, trying to save the situation. With a furrowed brow and a curt nod, witnesses say father Steve was quick to turn on his heels and head back inside.
“Nice to meet you, mate.” Steve said, “Lara, I think you better come inside.”
