A local couple’s park date took an unexpectedly stinky turn this week, as the unmistakable scent of an ibis, affectionately known as a “bin chicken,” blessed their picnic with its glorious presence.
Sarah Matthews (27) and her Hinge match, Brian Johnson, had been enjoying a picturesque afternoon at the park when the magical moment occurred.
“It was going really well,” said Sarah.
“We had our charcuterie board and the conversation was flowing—until we were suddenly enveloped by this… rich aroma.”
The source of the rich aroma? An ibis, now several meters above them, after taking flight, leaving behind a cloud of what Sarah tactfully described as “that weird ibis smell.”
The ibis, known for its love for rummaging through bins and leaving a distinct trail of odor in its wake, had been eyeing their brie and crackers from a respectful distance before deciding to take flight, possibly out of respect for the couple’s privacy.
Despite the simultaneous dry-heave, Sarah and Brian remained positive about the date overall.
