Betoota local Brendan Kaur (35) has hit a sobering milestone—he now has to consider “how many stairs there are” when planning a holiday.
While flipping through travel guides for inspiration, Brendan found himself crossing entire regions off the list based solely on the steepness of their hills. “I’d love to see Machu Picchu,” he sighed, “but those stairs look like the kind of thing that’ll have my knee blowing out in five minutes.”
“Guess I’ll have to rule out Santorini too.”
This revelation has turned Brendan’s travel ambitions upside down, “It’s a bit depressing,” he admitted, “You realise you’re not just booking a holiday—you’re planning one where you might actually make it back in one piece.”
Gone are the days of dreaming about Angkor Wat or the Amalfi Coast; now, it’s all about flat, reliable destinations like Copenhagen.
Brendan’s travel plans now hinge on access to elevators, ground-floor bars, and hotels with shuttle services. “At this age, one cobblestone street is all it takes to turn a holiday into a physio session,” he lamented.
In a bid for compromise, Brendan has embraced more “chill” getaways.
“Maybe I don’t need to conquer the Spanish Steps,” he shrugged. “Bali’s got stairs too—but at least there’s always some bloke with a scooter ready to haul you up.”
