In what comes as no surprise to those familiar with 2010s internet culture, ex-Tumblr user Maya Fox (29) has revealed a hidden talent – she’s highly proficient in HTML coding.
The revelation came to light after Maya, a Front End Developer, casually updated her personal website, a project she had supposedly “thrown together on a lazy Sunday.” When friends praised her for the sleek design and impressive functionality, Maya shrugged it off, attributing her skills to “just years of messing around on Tumblr.”
“It was honestly no big deal,” said Maya, while tweaking the CSS. “Back in the day, everyone was customising their blog themes, embedding music players, and adding a rainbow mouse cursor. It was basically DIY Code Camp.”
Sources confirm that Maya spent most of her teenage years, reblogging black-and-white GIFs of Effy Stonem from Skins and curating the perfect emo aesthetic for her Tumblr blog. Her early coding skills—once limited to embedding auto-play My Chemical Romance tracks—have since evolved into building sophisticated websites with impressive JavaScript animations.
Close friends weren’t surprised by Maya’s coding expertise. “Anyone who could turn their Tumblr page into a high-fashion layout was clearly destined for a career in design,” said one friend.
Reflecting on her Tumblr days, Maya feels bittersweet. “It was fun back then, but Tumblr was a pretty chaotic place. Great for learning to code—probably not the best for mental health.”
