Americans are currently casting their ballots in the presidential race between Republican nominee former President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Vice- President Kamala Harris.
It’s an election that even the most seasoned political pundits are convinced will come down to the wire, and one that has cost more campaign dollars than any before.
And unlike any election that has ever taken place in Australia, the entire world is watching the results trickle through as different polls close across the United States Of America.
Australians know very well that if America coughs, we sneeze. And the results of this election has the potential to drastically shape the future.
With topics like gender equality and reproductive health dominating the presidential debate, this election will also be watched closely by Australian women – who just last month received an unpleasant reminder that abortion bans are still something that our own right-wing politicians are still keen to explore.
However, with vastly different demographics and cultural nuances – the American electoral map is a rather tricky one to read on a day like this.
Luckily for all the women in Australia, there is a bloke in every workplace who knows exactly what is going on.
In Betoota’s prestigious insurance broker firm, Channel Country Coverage, that bloke’s name is ‘Mitchy’.
Aside from broadly explaining the cultural differences between America’s 6 different swing states to his female colleagues, Mitchy is also really good at explaining how different races of people vote.
When asked if he can explain the electoral college system to his genuinely interested colleagues, Mitchy kind of glazes over the constitutional presidential electors, and instead focuses on explaining female voting patterns to females.
“So yeah, the thing with Arizona is, it’s like on the border. So the women, like yeah, they are worried about abortion, but like they are more worried about Mexicans. So they’ll definitely vote Trump”
“Also Joe Rogan has completely changed everything!”
