Former Australian Rupert Murdoch has weighed into the US election debate this afternoon local time, implying that the result is as much as a surprise to him as it is to most other media moguls.

In a short call with The Advocate, Mr Murdoch spoke to our reporter from his New York home.

“Haha,” he said.

“Whoops.”

Mr Murdoch’s comments come as criticism grows surrounding the Fox News network, which many political commentators and analysts have suggested may have unduly influenced the results so far in the election.

However, the mogul was quick to turn the conversation towards the amount of rain, or lack there of, that has fallen on his vast pastoral holdings near Wee Jasper.

“It’s a shame really, I’m supposed to visit Bloomfield later this year and it just looks silly when the lake’s all the way out,” he contined.

“Cavan’s books look great though. Better than bloody Foxtel.”

More to come.
