A woman who usually relies on her mates to analyse text messages has found a new bestie in ChatGPT, who’s not only available 24/7 but also has no qualms in giving her brutally honest feedback – which she may or may not listen to, depending on how delusional she’s feeling on the day.

Having used the AI chatbot to write cover letters, draft text messages and as a mediator to resolve fights, Claire Bowens, 28, has now discovered that it’s possible to get ChatGPT’s take on whether a budding relationship is going anywhere, by sending screenshots of the conversation and asking the bot for a sentiment analysis.

Though the fact she has to analyse a text message at all, should be answer enough.

“Okay SO, according to ChatGPT, the message Ryan sent was pretty polite and noncommittal, which suggests ‘the lack of definitive enthusiasm could mean he’s either genuinely busy or trying to soften a lack of interest”, says Claire, with a defeated shrug, “but then ChatGPT says I should give him the benefit of the doubt as I shouldn’t jump to conclusions based on one message.”

“But that I should let Ryan be the one to follow up though.”

Our reporter admits that sounds like some pretty solid advice.

“Hmm…but what does a robot know?”

More to come.
