The Liberal Party’s holding paddock for failed candidates and disgraced campaign advisors is desperately looking for a divisive culture war issue to pollute the Australian news cycle with today.

This comes as the pioneer of Australian shock-jock journalism, Alan Jones was taken into custody by NSW Police yesterday morning.

The veteran 2GB broadcaster and former marquee talent for Sky News faces 24 charges over historical indecent assault and sexual touching offences.

As of this morning, NSW Police have revealed that Jones was charged with an additional two counts of assault with act of indecency relating to a ninth victim.

After nearly 40 years as an unimpeachable political pundit and advisor to conservatives politicians, generations of right-wing Australian MPs can now exhale – and finally delete his phone number.

Despite the fact that Jones has strenuously denied these allegations, it seems the power he held over both Federal and State Parliaments appears to be vanishing regardless.

This may be because he carries no political usefulness in a media landscape that no longer gives a shit about the opinions of old men on TV and radio.

It also may be because his list of enemies has grown too big for him to be protected.

Either way, any association with the name Alan Jones is now a hindrance for the media publishers that platformed him for decades.

This is why Sky News only briefly touched on this breaking news story overnight. Former Liberal party heavyweight turned TV culture war-mongerer Peta Credlin says the allegations don’t match up with the man she knew. A man who also used to work for the Liberal Party and generate meaningless outrage on Sky News.

Andrew Bolt says Jones must be allowed the presumption of innocence, which is not usually something that Sky News or 2GB radio has ever provided the many footballers, politicians or celebrities that they gleefully dragged over the coals for decades.

But that’s about it. Sky News producers and junior interns are today working tirelessly to find rumours of transgender women using female bathrooms in universities, or Aboriginal teenagers stealing cars after being given bail by an overwhelmed rural justice system. Or Polynesian NRL players being arrogant. The woke agenda has gone too far. This country is going to the dogs and everyday Australians have had a gutful of Albanese!
