Victoria is set to swelter this weekend, as a heatwave sweeps through south-eastern Australia.

This late November hot spell is an almost unfamiliar feeling for Australians, after several years of much brisker Summers during back-to-back La Niña events.

But Australians have not entirely forgotten the Black Summer, and remain on high-alert for any potential grassfires throughout this high-risk weather.

While central Queensland braces for flash flooding after days of soaking rain, much of Australia’s east coast are staring down temperatures that are likely to soar to up to 12C above average.

Extreme heat is also expected to hit much of South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania and inland NSW.

Unfortunately for those elsewhere in the country, they don’t have the same luxury that Victorians have when it comes to escaping the heat with a swim at some of the most pictureseque beaches in the world.

Hundreds of thousands are expected to flock to Victoria’s stunning coastline over the weekend, with locals advised to prepare for a rush of visitors fighting tooth and nail to carve off their own patch of grey sand overlooking Port Phillip Bay and the Bass Strait.

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has asked locals to please be kind and patient to one another this weekend, and not let the temperature result in tempers.

“There’s going to be a lot of traffic in our coastal suburbs, and a lot of activity near the water. So please, everyone, let’s just try and get along” said the Premier.

“Victorians know how lucky we are to have these stunning multi-purpose waterfronts, and we’ve already proven we can share the beaches with the shipping containers and cranes, so let’s not squabble amongst ourselves over sand”

“Whether you are at Hobson’s Bay or Frankston Beach, there is enough of our beautiful beaches for everyone”
