ABC Chairman Kim Wilson has received vast amount of helpful and interesting correspondence from random men on the internet today.
It is believed this very measured and constructive feedback began flooding into his email inbox almost seconds after making very public criticisms of American podcaster Joe Rogan at the Australian National Press Club.
When asked by an Australian journalist why he thought the wildly popular former Reality TV star had become such an oracle for male audiences, Kim Williams suggested the podcaster “preyed on people’s vulnerabilities” which he found to be “deeply repulsive”.
These comments provoked immediate backlash from the podcast’s diehard fanbase, known colloquially as the Rogan Bros.
But, surprisingly the ABC Chairman has said that everyone who reached out to him have been very civilised, and not at all hysterical or vitriolic in their efforts to defend the man they spend hours listening to each week on Spotify.
As both a former News Limited executive and AFL commissioner, Kim Williams is more than familiar with dealing with public outrage, but he says after seeing such an intelligent debate arise from his comments – he’s starting to think he might’ve been wrong about the Joe Rogan phenomena.
However, some Americans do seem to have confused the Australian public broadcaster for a state broadcaster, resulting in a handful commentators accusing Kim Williams of being a mouthpiece for the Australian government.
However, these knee-jerk accusations were quickly put to bed after those making them did a little bit of research, and ended up learning that Kim Williams nearly went to prison for his conscientious objections to the Vietnam war, and has been raging against the machine since well before Joe Rogan was living in Hollywood and starring in NBC sitcoms.
After 24 hours of warm and welcoming conversations with Joe Rogan fans, the ABC Chairman has decided that maybe this entire Rogan thing isn’t as dangerously reactionary and toxic as he once thought.
Kim Williams has since decided he will now eat nothing but Elk meat.
