A man in an elevator was more determined than ever to get the baby in the pram, who was death-staring him, to crack at least a small smile.

The standoff happened yesterday when Sam Cobden (29) found himself on a moderately crowded elevator ride.

“I got into the elevator and quickly noticed the intense stare of a 10-month-old,” Sam explained.

“Honestly, his cold eyes were kind of impressive for someone so young.”

As the baby continued to glare at Sam with a thousand-yard stare, the kind you’d expect from a Russian man who survived World War I, Stalin’s purges, and World War II, Sam decided it was time to pull out the big guns.

He tried everything—funny faces, peekaboo, even the classic fake pulling off the finger—but nothing could break the baby’s icy resolve.

“It was like trying to crack a safe,” Sam said.

“But this safe was a baby… with no mercy.”

Other passengers began to notice the tension. One woman gave a sympathetic smile, while an older man muttered something about “kids these days.”

Just as the elevator doors opened and Sam prepared for defeat, the baby blinked… then yawned.

“Close enough,” Sam shrugged, stepping out.

“I’ll take it as a win.”
