A pair of rapidly ageing parents are today breathing a huge sigh of relief.

The source of that relief comes in the form of the Federal Government’s landmark new social media ban for people under the age of 16.

The world first ban passed parliament last night along with a flurry of other bills.

The government is yet to reveal how it plans to implement a ban that hasn’t been successfully brought in anywhere other than North Korea, but has promised $50 million of fines for companies who fall foul of the new regulations.

While many have questioned the efficacy of something like this, for local parents Millie and Shayne Wandsworth it comes as a breath of fresh air.

“What a relief,” said Millie, a grossly underpaid nurse in the NSW health system.

“I mean, given both Shayne and I don’t come from well off families and neither of our parents are going to die soon we won’t own a house for a while.”

“And yes, I know it doesn’t help that Shayne has slipped back into one of his binges after the Melbourne Cup festival of ads…”

“But it’s kind of tough out here at the moment, while the large corporations price gouge us for essentials and the reserve bank punishes people for inflationary pressures we have no control over.”

“It’s just great to know that our youngest won’t be able to Snapchat his mates.”

“And he’ll have to wait another few years before he can have his brain rotted out by a constant stream of racing and sport to bet on.”

“Now we can enjoy these golden years.”

“But I’m on 4 back to back night shifts, so I’m going to bed now.”
