A local man that recently got a cash in hand job is finding it difficult to adjust to the post-big wallet world he currently lives in.
With the rise of mobile payments services, digital identification and the decline in cash payment options, many people decided to scrap clunky wallets years ago in favour of sleek card holders, some even finding no need for a wallet at all.
Like many technological evolutions, Mark Robinson (31) has found himself on the back foot once again as he struggles to adapt to no longer owning a big leather wallet.
“It’s annoying because I get paid in cash, but i simply can’t find a wallet to put cash in anymore” Mark explained.
“No one’s selling them, I don’t even have a friend that kept their old one that I can use!”
Frustratingly, Mark has resorted to stuffing a few notes into his pockets before he leaves the
house each day.
“It’s far from ideal, but what else am i supposed to do?”
He described his pockets as “a chaotic cash pit.” Every time he reached for his keys, he’d feel the crumpled bills jostling around.
To add to the embarrassment, he has to avoid any sudden movements that might cause loose change to clatter to the ground like marbles.
“Every time I pull out my phone to pay for something, I feel like everyone’s judging my cash hoarding,” he lamented.
Mark even considered making a DIY wallet from duct tape and an old cereal box, but that plan quickly fell through.
“I don’t want to look like a 15 year old” he said.
As he navigates this cash conundrum, Mark is left wondering if the return of the big wallet may ever happen.
