Confidence has been restored in the River City this week, as it appears that there is finally a concrete plan for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
After a state election where this issue didn’t come up once, and was instead overshadowed by the media’s booming prioritisation of a statistically non-existent youth crime crisis, The 2032 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXV Olympiad and Brisbane 2032, will be held from 23 July to 8 August, 2032, with Brisbane, Queensland, Australia as the host city.
This means Brisbane needs to get it’s arse into gear – unless they want to be outsourcing all of their major Olympic events to lesser cities, like Sydney and Melbourne.
With less seven years to go until the start gun fires, the city had grown anxious that Brisbane would humiliate itself of the world stage by allowing the whingeing of NIMBY property investors and a primary school of 150 children to get in the way of building a world-class CBD entertainment precinct.
However, even with the Gabba redevelopment thrown out the window, there is still time to salvage the city’s reputation.
Today it can be revealed that the vast majority of track events at the 2032 games will take place on the rolling greens of Brisbane’s Riverstage.
Riverstage is an outdoor entertainment venue in Brisbane, Australia. The venue occupies a sloped natural auditorium within the City Botanic Gardens and has a capacity of 9,500.
While the Riverstage usually hosts music concerts, or family and community events – it would be rid2 hectares of parkland within walking distance of the CBD.
The Queensland Premier David Crisafulli says there was always going to have to be compromises when it came to getting the city ready for an event of this scale in less than a decade.
“The slight angle isn’t really too much to be concerned about” said Crisafulli.
“All of the sports scientists that are arguing it may cause injuries, or warp statistics, are simply just being alarmists”
“We’ll just have to make sure the finish line is downhill.”
“Who knows, we might even see some world records breaking”
The official outline for the games will continue over the coming weeks.
