Channel Seven is planning to do quite possibly the most Channel Seven thing ever this afternoon and force viewers of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle off the main channel to 7mate because it clashes with ‘The Chase’.
Which is understandable considering the programme is one of the highest-rating shows on national television but the fact still remains that the only sporting team to unite the nation is getting booted for a game show.
After failing to secure his 10000th Test run in front of his home crowd in Sydney earlier this month, carry-over captain Steve Smith is facing the prospect of scoring one of his most important runs on 7mate, where it’s being shown because Margaret from Raby Bay is trying to win the 9-day P&O Elvis-themed cruise like her life depends on it.
Channel Seven won the intense bidding war to broadcast the international Test series, two matches against Sri Lanka in Galle. In doing so, they have become the only broadcaster in Australia to show it.
That means they can treat the broadcast like an apprentice hairdresser treats her Suzuki Swift.
If that’s not the most Channel Seven thing ever, tomorrow, they’re planning to do the same with the Lady Ashes Test live from the MCG. As that will clash with The Chase AND the Sri Lanka Test, the Lady Ashes is being broadcast on 7two. Which isn’t even in HD.
The Advocate reached out to Channel Seven for comment but were told we wouldn’t be getting one.
More to come.
