A local bloke has put his passion for spreadsheets to good use this evening, as he attempts to steer his mates away from the banquet menu at a local Chinese restaurant.

Seated at a table for 10 up the back of the Imperial Dragon Chinese in downtown Betoota, big four accountant Hamish Hamilton decided to pull out his laptop to prove that the $89 banquet was all chaff.

“Guys I reckon we can beat the banquet, we can do better!” Hamish proclaimed, as he set up some formulas in a fresh spreadsheet.

“They’ve padded it out with the cheap cuts, and there’s not a single prawn dish in the mix!”

Given it was 8pm on a Friday night and most of his mates were already six beers deep into the evening, Hamish’s trusting friends gave him the all clear to go off-road and curate a banquet of his own.

With numbers flying into the excel document, Hamish quickly drafted up an order which included some Scallop Sui Mai and Prawn & Crab dumplings, two high end offerings which didn’t get a mention on the banquet menus.

Going deep into the leather bound menu, Hamish then skipped the usual Beef and Black Bean option, and found some value in a Diced Wagyu with Black Pepper.

“Guys we’re coming out at $73.58 a head,” Hamish yelled over his laptop.

“Sounds good to us!” his pissed mates slurred back as they sucked the first bubble out of a Crown Lager.

“We trust you mate, just hurry up and order.”
