As the nation’s late-tax-submitters finally get their hands on their juicy returns, pre-summer impulse purchasing has seen a sharp increase in outdoor, automotive and sporting goods stores around the country.
While watersports vehicles were high on the list of tax-return-toys, the underrated Australian past time of buying four brand new tyres and taking your car down to an industrial estate with a few mates and a GoPro is also one to consider.
CEO of Queensland Suburban Tourism, Wayne Henjak says that it’s hard to beat a cheap and exciting outing to the local business park.
“Most of these suburban lots don’t have much going on” he said.
“Especially after hours, the most foot traffic you’ll get is a few old factory girls having smoko in their hairnets”
Mr Henjak says that while a day on the river fishing sounds like fun, it’s hard to match the high-octane adventure of watching an early model Falcon or Commodore put on a smoke show in a CostCo carpark.
“A brand new set of Goodyears, plus fitting, comes in at around a grand, or just under. That’s the average return you’ll get as a mid-level suburban employee”
As mentioned in a new TV campaign by the Tourism Queensland, lighting up an industrial estate until your new set of tyres are running on steel wire is the one-stop holiday adventure for your family these holidays.
“It’s definitely worth a crack this summer. And it’s a great stimulation to local economies”
“Bring the kids as well, these young blokes make really celebrate their first tax returns in a big way”
“Look out! Here comes Braiden!”
