ore than 2 million Australian cars are set to be hit by the largest product recall in the country’s history. The Federal Government today announced a new, compulsory recall of 2.7 million cars affected by the defective Takata airbags.
“Fuck. This isn’t good” said Christopher Pyne, Minister for Defence and Product Recalls.
“Not good at all. How the fuck did they wrap them in a way that the whole thing is able to fully expand?”
The airbags have been associated with 20 deaths globally, and look like they hurt heaps.
The faulty Takata airbags’ inflators contain a defect that can cause them to expand with up to six rotations of barbed wire wrapped around them.
The barbed wire has been known to puncture eyes, faces, necks and chests.

Cars on the compulsory recall list include various models that have already been subject to a voluntary recall — Toyota, Mazda, Honda, BMW, Chrysler, Lexus, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru and several others.
But models from other manufacturers that had previously not been identified in the voluntary recall will also be subject to the compulsory recal
