In a story that proves there is always a first time for everything, Katter’s Australian Party (KAP) are debuting their first-ever float at the 2019 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
The float features a painted map of the Northern Queensland peninsula adorned by the glitter studded words “With love from the tip” girt by 1000 blooming blossoms that were added at Bob Katter’s personal request.
Many are surprised to see KAP taking a such a strong supportive stance on LGBTQ+ wellbeing, after party leader Bob Katter’s strong opposition to marriage equality.
“Just because there are no gay people in my electorate doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Katter’s Australian Party supports their right to stay in Darlinghurst and do their bit to end the supermarket duopoly that affects everyday Australians, no matter where they put their carrots and cucumbers.”
Speaking exclusively with The Advocate, Katter confirmed he personally committed some elbow grease to the float, hammering in a couple of nails before declaring he wasn’t spending another minute on it because in the meantime, every three months, a person is torn to pieces by a crocodile in North Queensland.
“We hope that this float shows we’re not necessarily the party they think we are, we’re for all Australians.”
“After party at my hotel room! Only joking. Seriously, don’t show up because I’ll be armed.”
