Local Brisbane girls, Kelly, Kylie, Kiralee and Kyra (all 25) say they are really excited to experience a bit of Australiasian-German culture.
The four girlfriends are just a few of the 40,000 people celebrating all things German at the Brisbane Showgrounds this month, as Oktoberfest celebrations get underway.
The iconic cultural festival, which feels like it could have been going for generations like the Greek one has, it seems that Australia’s largest German festival has only been running for more than a decade.
Several hectares of Brisbane Showgrounds have been transformed into a mini Bavaria with a culturally-rich atmosphere complete with delicious food, a line-up of traditional entertainment, and so much fucking beer.
“Oh my Goooood” says Kiralee.
“It’s so weird. It feels like we are inside but it’s just a giant tent [laughter]”
The now iconic event, which has somehow managed to continue it’s European standard of hospitality despite a growing Australian nanny-state, is believed to be completely drama free – because no one likes getting into a scrap when they are dressed up in funny outfits.
“I love the outfits!” says Kelly.
“I thought I was gonna get in heaps of trouble, like I did last time I wore a German costume, at my brother’s 21st. But everyone’s getting into it”
