An Old City District retiree phoned KBBL 1449 at 8am to contribute to the morning discourse by telling a story completely unrelated to the previous or current discussion.
Bruce Hineman, a retired meteorologist, spoke to The Advocate via telephone this morning after our reporter heard him talking about mango wine this morning on the radio, despite breakfast host Robyn Jones holding a discussion about the Matilda’s journey to world cup glory.
He said that he wrote the tangent out in its entirety before he phoned KBBL just to get all his ducks in a row.
However, he said the trickiest part about getting on air is lying to the producer about what you’re going to be talking about.
“I told that young man who works at the station that I coached Sam Kerr as a youngster over in Perth and he said, ‘Righto, Bruce, I’ll put you onto Robyn. Remember, no swearing before
“Then I just start talking about mango wine. About how the night I first tried it, my cousin Brad, who I was travelling Costa Rica with, had an elergic reaction the follow night to a satay skewer, which left him feeling a bit under the weather. Never the less, we had some mango wine the next night at this bodega down the street and next thing you know, Brad’s passed away,”
“I could go on for hours, I could. You want me to go on?”
Our reporter elected to hang the phone up and pause to wonder if this story is even newsworthy.
