The CWA has today volunteered the expertise of their organisation’s most famous baking judge, during the showdown between the last two finalists of Australia’s biggest scone prize.
After thousands of entries right around the country, the final two contestants came down to Prime Minister Scott Morrison and singer-songwriter Guy Sebastian.
It was a hard fought race to the final podium with third-place going to entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins.
Other high-profile contestants that were ejected in the earlier rounds include former Cronulla Sharks star Paul Gallen, comedian Anh Do, surfer Mark Occhilupo, TV presenter Peter Helliar and of course the prominent Australian republican chairman Peter FitzSimons.
Morrison took advantage of his access to the Guy Sebastian and also used the moment to announce a $250 million support package to help the arts sector recover from coronavirus restrictions.
The package is made up of grants and loans, with a focus on helping touring artists, actors and producers on the stage and screen, but mostly the stoner tradies building the set.
Sebastian, who has been signed to a major label since the first season of Australian Idol and now serves as a coach on prominent talent show The Voice, stood behind the PM as he announced the package to boost the struggling arts sector this morning.
Guy has since faced criticism for his role as the ‘Scotty Cam’ of the arts. However, he says it was never about the politics for him and insists the only reason he met with the Prime Minister was to get his scone measured.
After the announcement took place, the Country Women’s Association representative took close to thirty minutes carefully measuring the circumferences of each scone, before declaring it a tie.
Both contestants are reportedly furious at being robbed of victory, with Morrison comparing himself to Shannon Noll.
