Some local university students have been applauded for a touching display of solidarity with our nation’s winemakers today.
The pair of second-year students earnt the praise by heading down to a local Bottle-O in the French Quarter and picking up a locally made 4-litre cask of Fruity Lexia wine this afternoon.
Their noble and patriotic actions come after China announced an investigation into the Australian wine industry – citing concerns regarding cheap Aussie wine flooding their market and skewing it disproportionately towards Australian producers.
That move, which has absolutely nothing to do with the shit-stirring of the Australian government, understandably has winemakers feeling as nervous as Barley growers and cattle farmers.
However, thanks to the actions of South Betoota Polytechnic students James Spears and Elina Kovacic, they aren’t feeling alone.
Speaking to The Advocate this afternoon as they poured some budget creaming soda into the Fruity Lexia cask, the pair said they just want to do their bit.
“Given our government seems hell-bent on fighting with our biggest trading partner, we thought we’d try and be good citizens and support local producers,” explained Spears.
“So, seeing as class is done for the day and we don’t have anything due for a few days we thought we’d get the jump on uni night,” he continued, briefly pausing for a sip from the coffee mug holding the necessary amount of goon needed to be removed to make the creaming Lexia concoction.
“Anyway, stay for a drink if you want. We are gonna order some $5 dominos value pizzas in a second.”
Our reporter briefly considered what else he had to do for today before sending the interview recording over to the newsroom and taking them up on their kind offer.
No more to come.
