A quarantining tennis star has today shocked the nation, and the sporting world at large.

Young European up and comer Ivo Stefan did so by today taking to social media to thank all of the people involved with organising an international tennis tournament in the middle of a pandemic.

The fringe Top 20 player told The Advocate this morning that he’s just incredibly thankful that he’s able to earn a reasonably lucrative income playing a sport for a living.

“It’s an incredible privilege to be able to play sport for money during a global pandemic that has ravaged the world,” said Stefan.

“So I’m just grateful that organisers have facilitated quarantine hotels and a tournament where going home after losing in the first round nets you 90,0000 Aussie dollars.”

The words come at odds with people like world number one Novak Djokovic, who issued a list of demands to the organisers and complained about the living conditions ahead of the tournament.

That sense of entitlement has lead to the Australian public who religiously watch the tournament, complaining about the lack of self-reflection from the sports stars.

However, young Stefan has moved to win back the public, by affirming that he’s actually really thankful to be taking a stranded Australian’s spot in hotel quarantine.

“I mean, you guys don’t have any idea what it’s like in the rest of the world, but unlike you guys overseas, I respect your wishes and understand that you are scared of this virus, so I’m glad that you’ve put me up.”

“And hopefully we can get some virtual couch crowd cheering on the background of the stadium for me.”
