New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian has resigned from her role as Premier after the Independent Commission Against Corruption announced a public hearing into her conduct.
Berejiklian will also stand down from parliament, the 3rd Liberal Premier in a row to leave Parliament on their own terms, as it becomes far too hot in the kitchen.
The outgoing premier described the decision as “extremely difficult” but said she had been left with no choice.
Hot Mess Gladys was still polling well right up until her resignation, with many voters nervous about seeing her leave the role in the middle of a pandemic.
As a politicians, she will be remembered as an outsider to the Liberal Party establishment, as the daughter of Armenian migrants who rose through the ranks to become Premier in her early 40s.
Her re-election in 2019 confirmed her popularity amongst voters, proving that, in her own words: ‘Someone with a long surname, and a woman, can be Premier of New South Wales’
Today, with Gladys following Baird and O’Farrell out the same mid-term trap door, The NSW Liberal Party must decide amongst themselves which nameless state MP should step up to replace her as Premier – as they wind back the clock to the good old days where the state is run by blue blooded white men.
It looks to be a difficult task, not because of policies, but because it’s actually quite difficult to tell any of the remaining MPs apart.
It is believed the Liberals are now divided over which one of the party’s 42 white men named Paul is the right person to take the reins.
Every single candidate appears to be a devout Christian who likes rugby union and went to one of three elite private schools on Sydney’s North Shore.
17 of these blokes named Paul have previously worked at the NAB, the other 25 are listed as former employees of Macquarie Bank.
At this point, it looks as though the next leader will have to be picked out of hat – because every single one of them has the same born-to-rule leadership ambitions and can’t fathom backing anyone except themselves.
Prime Minister Morrison is reportedly terrified of the prospect that winner of this lucky dip will be one of seve Pauls who believes in climate change.
