Wishful thinking is often a one way street to disappointment and a quick lesson in lowering expectations. Though in Freya’s case, the bar would be on the floor.
It’s alleged the 24-year-old had been expecting her boyfriend to pick her up at 6:30 pm to check out a new bar that they’d been talking about attending for weeks. But as the minutes had ticked by and she’d heard nothing in response to the slew of texts imploring his whereabouts, Freya was left with few options – the dark route, wondering if he’d been killed in a car crash, the rational option, that Diablo 2 had just been released and he’d forgotten about the date entirely, or the hopelessly optimistic option that Neil was running late because he was no doubt picking up a lovely gift.
Though Neil had never once shown a shred of romance, save for that one time he got high and needed to hold her arm, Freya’s brain had instantly gone on the defensive, rather than accept that she wasn’t at the top of her boyfriend’s priority list.
Suddenly remembering the time she’d casually mentioned her love of sunflowers, Freya strongly suspects he must have ducked into the local Woolies and would be there in no time.
When another twenty minutes go by without so much as a single text message, Freya theorises that he must be at Maccas to buy her a couple of hash browns, because he knows how grumpy she gets when she’s hungry
More to come.
