Local Girl Elise Brougham has rustled many a jimmy on the weekend with her persistent enhancement of the word “bolognaise”.

Like her friends, Elise would often order “spag-bol” when at a restaurant, but these same friends have noticed that since returning from her European holiday, Elise has added enough syllables to ‘bolognaise’ to justify an extra breath and a sip of water halfway through.

Reports suggest that at the bistro her companions have taken to ordering salads as their dinner is often cold by the time she has finished ordering.

Friend Beth was the first to voice her concern over the prolonged pronunciation. “We all headed off to the club for dinner and a few drinks on a Saturday night, and we both ordered spaghetti bolognaise. As soon as I had placed my order, Elise corrected me and told me that technically the correct pronunciation was “bol-og-nee-ays”. I thought ok, fair enough, but by dessert she had turned it into “bol-og-nee-ays-ah”.

Then on the way home she kept talking about how the “bol-ee-og-nee-ay-see-ay-ah” was bellissimo while kissing the tips of her fingers and gesticulating wildly. I told the uber to just drop me off here”.
