A grown man shouldn’t wear an apron unless he’s in the kitchen, says one out-of-work Sydney bartender, who says he’s looking on the bright side today because at least he doesn’t have to wear his stupid apron to work.
“It’s humiliating,” said Milan Michálek, a Czech-Australian who found work as a bartender after being let go from his job at an airline that most Federal MPs have shares in.
“A grown man shouldn’t wear an apron. They are for children and chefs. I’m pouring beers at a sports bar, why must I wear this ridiculous apron,” he told The Advocate via telephone.
“I think it has a lot to do with power. The managers, at this bar, they walk about looking like the people they are kicking out. It’s like they are undercover. Me? I look like a little boy. I am 45,”
“Now, they closed all the bars. Which is bad, not getting paid. The Nepalese boys in the kitchen, most of which were off the books, are not doing so well. Does the government care? No,”
“At least I don’t have to wear the stupid apron. I hate the apron.”
More to come.
