A local property developer is being lauded this week for building a number of medium density apartment blocks on the former site of the Betoota Bitter Breweries in the Old City – none of which are “exclusive” or “luxury”.
“They’re just fucking apartments,” says Greene Kite of multinational residential developer Kite Constructions.
“They’re close-ish to Betoota Central Railway station, there’s a supermarket on the ground floor. It’s just a shop and top, mate. There’s six apartment blocks in this development. Each of them have 40 units. They’re not exclusive, or luxury,”
“To be honest, the only thing that’s luxury about an off-the-plan apartment is the price. The only thing that’s exclusive is the legal battles you’ll have with the developer when you realise you’ve dropped a million dollars on an apartment that’s not going to outlive a fat dachshund. These apartments we’ve built here at Kite are just apartments. They’re well built, made with quality materials and by people who didn’t get their trade certificate out of a cornflakes box,”
“This is what we need. We need more apartments that are sold to first home buyers and not foreign investors looking to wash filthy money. These other bastards will sell entire apartment blocks to people in China sight unseen. Where’s the money coming from? Making and exporting drug precursors for everything between fentanyl and methamphetamine? Who cares? Money is money,”
“If I could, I’d only sell to people who have Betoota on their birth certificate but the lefties would get up me for that, wouldn’t they?”
The Advocate understands that a one-bedroom apartment in the Kite development will sell for $490 000 plus fees.
More to come.
