Though it should come as no surprise that Gen Z are the least privileged generation, it can now be revealed that their series of misfortune reaches a lot further than once thought, as entertainment moguls point out two unspoken indications of success each generation should enjoy.
Boy bands and vampires.
For millennials, this includes the both the massive boyband wave of the early 2000s (Backstreet Boys, NSYNC and Westlife) to the emo wave (My Chemical Romance, Fallout Boy and Panic! At The Disco) and of course, the resurgence of the OG pretty boy pop band, One Direction.
And though elder millennials and Gen X got to enjoy Van Helsing, Buffy, Angel and 50 iterations of Dracula, nobody truly experienced the vampire craze more than millennials – with Twilight, Vampire Diaries and True Blood all coming out within years of each other.
Unfortunately for Gen Z, there doesn’t appear to be either vampires or boy bands (aside from Kpop), which has left many youngsters feeling like they’re missing out on something they can’t quite put their finger on.
And also explains the youths current obsession with Twilight and Vampire Diaries, if the Tik Tok hashtags are anything to go on.
The Advocate speaks to a chronically online millennial to learn more.
“Oh Gen Z is OBSESSED with Twilight”, says Chrissie Morgan, 29, “it’s seen as a camp classic now, so they can enjoy it ‘ironically’ without being made fun of, like we were.”
“But the poor things are in dire need of some boy bands and pretty vampire boys to obsess over.”
“Having both of these things is shown to increase happiness in young women and queer folk by up to 96%.”
“The world needs boybands and bloodsuckers more than ever.”
“Somebody needs to put a group of *marginally talented, attractive boys in a band NOW.”
*not including Harry or Zayn.
More to come.
