The last time that Splendour in the Grass was held in 2019, the final night was saved by the Hilltop Hoods after some American rapper had to withdraw at the last moment.
Closing the festival with an act that many in the industry rival Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock 69 and Limp Bizkit at Woodstock 99, the Hilltop Hoods made a last-minute dash from Adelaide, our nation’s hip hop nursery, to the New South Wales north coast to make sure revellers went home with something to remember.
Now, the South Australians are back to save Splendour again.
Despite being told that their services would not be needed tonight, the Hilltops picked up some waders from BCF and made the long walk from the Pacific Highway into the main stage.
Speaking to The Advocate from the site’s entry, Suffa MC explained that this time out be different.
“They said we can’t play but I don’t care,” he said.
“I don’t care if we have to put DJ Debris’ iPhone in a schooner glass and rap over the instrumental tracks. We’re here to make sure everyone has a good time.”
DJ Debis nodded.
“Yeah man,” said DJ Debris.
“A pint glass would be ideal but fuck man, look where we are,”
“This is real.”
