The Brisbane 2032 Olympics team has announced that the closing ceremony of the 2028 Los Angeles Games will feature a lime green HSV Maloo tearing up the turf in homage to the South-East Corner’s vibrant culture. This bold plan follows the lead of Paris 2024, where actor Tom Cruise rappelled down the Stade de France and skydived onto the Hollywood sign to mark the handover to LA.

However, where Paris showcased Hollywood glamour with Cruise passing the Olympic flag via motorcycle through Parisian streets, Brisbane organisers have decided to trade that finesse for a burn-out-laden send-off. The HSV Maloo, Australia’s pride and joy in the realm of utes, will perform a series of donuts in the middle of the LA Coliseum before roaring sideways out of the stadium to the tune of “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC. Rumour suggest the band’s lead guitarist, Angus Young, will be strapped into the back of the Maloo as the arse is hung out.

“The LA Games are all about glitz, glamour and celebrities but we reckon the world’s ready for a bit of hooning,” said the spokesperson for the Brisbane 2032 Committee.

“Nothing says ‘Brisbane’ quite like a Maloo at full noise in third going sideways through some industrial park in Yatala.”

A black, lifted 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor is on standby should the Maloo not be ready.

More to come.
