NSW Transport Minister Jo Haylen has this week resigned from her role, after it was discovered she used a government chauffeur to drive her and some friends from Sydney to Caves Beach, and then to a Hunter Valley winery and back.
The round trip, which lasted 13 hours, occurred over the Australia Day weekend. Haylen is also alleged to have made another Hunter Valley trip with NSW minister Rose Jackson for a birthday celebration shortly after.
Though it’s highly likely there are plenty of other politicians who are abusing this system but simply haven’t been caught yet, Haylen has since apologised and announced she will be stepping down from the portfolio, but will still retain her role as a member for Summer Hill.
Many people, especially those who work for NSW transport, have rejoiced in this decision, but none more so than the chauffeur who was responsible for driving Haylen and her friends around while they were piss drunk from a day in the winery.
“Being trapped in a car with a group of rambunctious drunk people for several hours is a special kind of hell I wouldn’t wish on anyone”, says the driver, who wishes to remain anonymous, “especially wine drunk people.”
More to come.
