The Advocate’s NRL footy tipping competition has been won again by Santosh from finance, who took out last year’s competition by a single point.

Santosh Mishra, who emigrated to Australia from India in 2015, claims he doesn’t even follow rugby league and only joined the tipping competition because he thought everyone in the office did it.

The 31-year-old said he just wanted to be included in what he interpreted as a cultural activity unique to Australia.

However, this masthead’s tipping comp is run by cadet Wendell Hussey, who takes it very seriously and constantly reminds people to “get their tips in” before the kick-off of the round’s first game.

After winning the $900 top prize last year, Santosh explained to our reporter that he didn’t want to change anything.

“Obviously knowing nothing is key to winning,” he laughed.

“Effie Bateman from editorial came second. Isn’t she from Adelaide? [laughs] And then you’ve got Clancy and Wendell, who I think came tied last. There is no secret to winning, you must just pick the team that’s going to win. I do it on vibe and vibe alone. Don’t think, just pick! That is how you win tipping comp.”

Wendell Hussey couldn’t believe Santosh won again, or that Effie Bateman had come second.

He told our reporter that it makes a mockery of the competition.

“It’s fucking bullshit,” he said.

“Do you know what he told me he was going to spend his winnings on? Nothing! He said it’s going in his savings account. I’m fucking livid! That money is there to be gambled. I think it’s unbecoming of the competition if people are just going to save their winnings like they’re the fucking Barefoot Investor,”

“Me coming last with the big man is shameful. I would’ve put 250 hours into my tipping research this year. And I came last. It’s enough to send a man mad. The cops will have to shoot me if Santosh wins the Big Bash tipping. Actually, he might know a thing or two about cricket.”

More to come.
