A local surgeon who only recently qualified is preparing himself to vote for The Greens at the upcoming Federal Election after the pledged to wipe all student debt in the next term of government.
Speaking to The Advocate today, Dr Monty Fraser, a general surgeon at Royal Betoota Base Hospital, said he has accrued almost a quarter of a million dollars worth of HECS debt and has only now started to work it off.
The prospect of paying off his student debt doesn’t weigh heavily on the 33-year-old’s mind but having it forgiven by the Commonwealth is something he can get around.
“Well, call me Bob Brown because I’m joining those bongo-slapping lefties this time around,” he said.
“If they punt my HECS debt, I promise to only drive electric cars. Seriously. I’m going to vote for them. Not because they’re still chaining themselves to bulldozers but you’ve got people like Max Chandler-Mather in Brisbane, you know, focusing on things that matter like free dental and mental. More affordable homes. The environment is nice but it can wait, right,”
“I’d like to see our dentist friends get their HECS debt wiped. Free dental, well, dental paid by the Commonwealth, dentists could join us in this absolute cash bonanza.”
However, Dr Fraser said there was one group of people he would like to see forced to pay their student loans off.
“Chiropractors,” he said.
“They’re not real doctors. They’re shonks. If your back is fucked, go and see a specialist.”
The Advocate reached out to The Greens for comment but as it was before noon, they weren’t in the office.
More to come.
