The Prime Minister of Australia has today had a little spring put in his step – courtesy of some ‘important industry stakeholders.’

With politicians on all sides shaping up for a stink over gambling reform, Anthony Albanese has today had 100,000 strong arguments put to him by people in the industry.

“Not a bad little bonus bet there,” laughed Albanese, who has indicated that he is thinking about watering down the recommendations made by the Murphy report.

The Murphy report was chaired by the late Peta Murphy, a Labor MP who recommended (amongst other things) that the country transition towards a complete ban on gambling advertising and “inducements” such as multis and bonus bets – within the next 3 years.

The recommendations have received widespread support from within the Labor party and across the political spectrum, with the likes of John Howard, Malcolm Turnbull, Jeff Kennet and Dominic Perrottet signing an open letter in support of the calls.

However, while there is broad based support for reform to Australia’s gambling industry – which costs the nation 10s of billions of dollars in loses every single year – Albanese has refused to back the proposals.

“Yeah, I don’t know, some industry stakeholders have dropped a doozy amount of bonus bets into my account,” said Albo.

“And we’ve got the Tigers this weekend….”

“So I kinda feel like I wouldn’t mind dumping on the Bunnies aginst the wooden spooners.”

“Maybe a Cody first Tryscorer and some same game multis.”

“Sounds like more fun than enacting gambling reform in the face of the powerful sports betting lobby and media organisations who rely on their money to stay afloat.”

More to come.
