In some genuinely shocking news, 60 Minutes, the former flagship current affairs program on Channel 9 has broadcast some actual journalism this week.
The return to form came last night, as the program detailed allegations of branch stacking against Victorian Labor MP Adam Somyurek, and broadcast some of the horrific language used by him during that process.
That segment last night broke with the theme of sitting mentally unstable people in front of the camera and trying to take advantage of them for maximum ratings.
“We just thought we go for something a little bit different,” explained the Executive Producer of the program.
“And what a way to do that, with an actual piece of journalism detailing misconduct and poor behaviour in public office.”
Somyurek has since been sacked from the Victorian Government and Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has said he will push to have him expelled from the Labor party after his ‘shameful comments.’
Andrews has asked that the matters be referred to the Anti-Corruption Commission and has also said he and Federal Opposition Leader Antony Albanese will also commit to combatting the issue of branch stacking.
“Something right outta the George Negus and Ray Martin playbook! Stuff from the good old days you know, when we actually tried to create quality current affairs programming that aired important stories,” said the Executive Producer.
“Don’t worry though, that was our big story for the year, so it will be back to the same old same old next week. So don’t forget to tune in!”
