Alan Jones, Australia’s most influential conservative policymaker in the history of the federated states of Australia, will retire at the end of this month, saying doctors had told him “it was time to give the climate scientists a fighting chance”

However, Liberal Party executives have been told not to worry too much, as Jones will continue to present on Sky News and write for News Corp publications. Meaning, they will not have to think for themselves too much moving forward.

The 79-year-old 2GB breakfast host has towered over Sydney’s media, and Australian politics for decades, with many believing he could have been Prime Minister of Australia in the 1980s – had he not realised he was far more powerful waking up at 3am and speaking into a microphone for four hours a day.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison says he was initially nervous about a future without Alan Jones telling him how to think, but having spent the last couple months following the advice of medical experts, and finding success, he’s feeling a lot more confident.

Climate scientists and women in positions of power are also believed to be breathing a sigh of relief today.

The Alan Jones Show has been Sydney’s top-rating breakfast radio program since 2001.

Queensland Labor makes up the only non-coalition government that is not cheering at today’s news.
