Panel cap makers have been unable to keep up with demand this week as a collective of coastie mates took a group photo, leading to a national shortage of panel caps.
Currently an ‘in-style’ fashion choice, panel caps (or ‘lids’ in youth speak) are a popular choice amongst young men who live by the coast and pair especially well with a fleece of surf-mottled hair poking out at either side.
As popular as panel caps are, it was not until yesterday in Betoota’s seaside sister town of Magpie Bay, that a group of young coastie lads caused the nationwide shortage by posing for a group photo and in the process using every panel cap available in Australia.
“We did not anticipate this demand,” stated panel cap designer Sigmund Vance.
“Had we known a big group of boys from the coast were going to get a photo together, we would have planned accordingly and made sure there were enough to go round.”
This is not the only time a coastie gang photo has caused a national shortage of something.
A similar group photo incident in the ‘80s led to a shortage of curly haired men with poultry themed names such as ‘Rooster’ and ‘Chook.’
